Appearance

Calorie-free is a young man, standing at higher up boilerplate height with calorie-free-brown pilus and brownish eyes. During Part I, when not wearing his schoolhouse compatible, which consists of a tan conform and red tie, he dresses fairly casually, sometimes sporting a dress shirt underneath a jacket or a V-neck sweater with a collared t-shirt underneath. During Office II, if not wearing a like manner of apparel, he is seen wearing a suit.

He is considered to exist quite handsome, a trait noted by Misa Amane and Kiyomi Takada, among others.

Character

Light is characterized equally hardworking, talented, and a natural genius. Highly perceptive and good with trouble solving skills, Light is a skilled planner and good at mapping out scenarios. Furthermore, Light is very pop among peers and adored by his family members. However, his loftier intelligence and constant praise from adults laid the foundation for an intense level of hubris which chop-chop took event once he obtained the notebook.

Even after being corrupted by the Death Note, Light continues to prove a willingness to protect his family unit.

Like to his father Soichiro, Calorie-free has a strong sense of justice but this chop-chop becomes warped after he becomes tainted by the notebook'south power. Assertive the world to be "rotten," he uses his Death Note as a means by which he can enact his will to rid the world of evil people. Light's master goal is to create a new world that is free of injustice and populated only with people whom he deems honest and kind, thus becoming the "God of the new world". Calorie-free is decisive and driven to achieve his ambitions, without faltering one bit in his beliefs. Despite knowing the misdeed of murder, Light would consider his deportment the ultimate "sacrifice" to help the world.

Through utilise of the Death Notation, Low-cal chop-chop begins to develop a common cold and ruthless nature. Equally a utilitarian, he will take any means in order to achieve his goals. However, though his actions do put his family in impairment's way, he continues to show love and 18-carat concern for them. This is demonstrated when his sister Sayu is kidnapped and held for ransom; Low-cal prevents Soichiro from taking drastic activeness in order to keep Sayu rubber in spite of knowingly increasing Mello'southward chances of obtaining the Death Note.

In the anime, Light reflects on his actions earlier his death.

Additionally, the series shows that Low-cal was not born remorseless. After relinquishing the notebook and losing his memories to temporarily avoid suspicion, Light demonstrates compassion, a reluctance to manipulate others and an intense unwillingness to impale. In one case his memories return, yet, he reverts dorsum to his ruthless Kira persona and remains that way until his expiry.

The caste of Calorie-free'south hubris and ruthlessness varies by adaption. In the manga, Japanese films, musical and anime (at least before the final episode), Light is steadfast in his decisions equally Kira and rarely expresses any doubt in his deportment. An instance of this is shown early in the series when he resolves, chop-chop and without hesitation, to impale FBI agent Raye Penber for tailing him in spite of Raye not being a criminal. However, in the last episode of the anime, Light, defeated by Near and in critical condition as he tries to evade capture, imagines sorrowfully what his life could have been if he did not option up the Death Annotation.

Light's hubris and ruthlessness is especially downplayed in the drama and Netflix moving picture adaptions. In these continuities, he presents as less confident, demonstrates hesitation with killing the FBI agents investigating him and even considers abandoning his mission when feeling cornered. Nevertheless, beyond adaptions, Calorie-free has consistently been portrayed every bit an idealist and every bit an private who is willing to get to extreme measures in order to defend his idea of justice.

History

Light grew up in Japan with his family unit, which consists of his male parent, Soichiro Yagami, who is a fellow member of the Japanese Task Force (an investigation team opposing Kira), his mother, Sachiko Yagami, and his younger sis, Sayu Yagami.

At the beginning of the serial, Light is a third-twelvemonth high school student (twelfth Class) at Daikoku Private Academy and also attends supplemental classes at Gamou Prep Academy in the starting time of the story. He afterwards attends college at To-Oh Academy (東応大学, Tōō Daigaku).

Plot

Part I

Finding the Death Note

Calorie-free discovers the Death Note.

In the year 2003 (2006 in the anime), Low-cal Yagami discovers a mysterious notebook on the ground at his school. Written on the cover are the words "Death Note". The Death Note's instructions land that if a homo's name is written inside it, that person shall die. Calorie-free is initially skeptical of the notebook'southward authenticity, but after experimenting with information technology, Lite realizes that the Death Note is real.

After putting much idea into whether or non he should continue using the notebook, he ascertains that no i else will be able to comport the brunt of improving the world. Light so meets the previous possessor of the Expiry Note, a Shinigami named Ryuk. He explains his reasons for dropping the Death Note in the Homo Earth, and when information technology is Light's time to die, he will exist the i to write Light's proper noun in his notebook. Low-cal and then tells him of his goal of getting rid of all the evil people in the world, and ruling over it every bit God.

Light laughs at the notion of being caught.

Low-cal'south killings reach a awe-inspiring scale, attracting the attention of the principal detective known as L. The first conflict betwixt Light and L happens over the television receiver, start with the broadcast of Lind L. Tailor. L places Tailor as a decoy on goggle box in order to trick Lite, with the network stating that the broadcast is worldwide.

Light kills Tailor by writing his name down.

Tailor provokes Kira past calling him "evil", and, in a rage, kills Tailor with a heart set on.

Light thinks the ordeal is over, just the circulate of Tailor is suddenly cut, and Fifty'southward signature letter 'L' appears. Using a voice synthesizer, the real L announces that Lind 50. Tailor was a decoy and a criminal on death row. He explains that Tailor's information was never made available to the public, so there was no mode Kira could have killed him until at present. L boldly taunts Kira, asking him to try to kill him, as Light stares at the Idiot box, angrily shocked that he'due south been fooled. After several seconds, L learns that Kira needs the person's real proper noun and face to kill the victim, otherwise Kira would have already killed him. L announces that the video was aired only in the Kanto area of Nihon as a ploy to determine the location of Kira. 50 says that he is now speaking direct to Kira and tells Kira that he will take hold of him, then the broadcast ends.

L and Light declare that they are "justice."

As Light ponders over this, he accepts L'south challenge to him. He also declares that he will find L and he volition eliminate him. The 2 denote their intentions, and both declare that they are "justice", with Light needing to avoid suspicion and capture past L all while needing to kill him.

The FBI Agents

Soon after, now working with the Japanese constabulary, L begins to lead a Chore Forcefulness aslope Light'south ain begetter, Soichiro, in order to expose and capture Kira.

Light hacks into his begetter's computer without leaving a trace, and discovers that L and the Job Force speculate that Kira may well be a educatee. Lite figures that considering one would be able to control the conditions of expiry using the Death Note, manipulating the time of decease is possible as well. Light then begins killing criminals in one-hour increments in lodge to specifically contradict the "Kira is a student" theory, letting L know that Kira has access to police information, with Lite's primary goal in mind being the spawning of distrust amongst the police and L, as L will be bound to investigate the police at present.

When walking habitation from school, Low-cal is informed of by Ryuk that someone is tailing him. In order to prevent him from being investigated, Lite is determined to kill his stalker.

Ryuk tells Light the purpose of the Expiry Notation. A Shinigami gets extra life from killing humans with a Expiry Note, which is why a Shinigami can live for many years and cannot be killed in any other way. Then, Ryuk explains to Light that the Shinigami have eyes that permit them to encounter any homo's real name and lifespan over their head. In addition, a Shinigami can make a bargain with the owner of the Death Note to receive the "Shinigami Eyes" in exchange for one-half of that human's remaining lifespan, with Ryuk offering to make the bargain. Low-cal refuses the deal, stating that he needs to live for a long time in social club to rule over his utopian globe.

All of a sudden, Light has an idea about how to find out the FBI agent'due south proper name. He decides to utilise his stock criminals in order to find out how specific the details of expiry need to exist.

Lite and Yuri on a date

Light boards a autobus with his date, Yuri, and Calorie-free'southward follower takes a seat behind the couple.

Prior to the appointment, Low-cal had written the proper noun of Kiichiro Osoerda, having him hijack the bus, so leave the bus and die of an accident after seeing a phantom. Osoreda boards the jitney. The human pulls out a gun and points it to the driver, taking the motorbus hostage.

Light and Penber on the double-decker

Light prompts his follower to say something by passing Yuri a annotation which contains Light's plans to auscultate the busjacker. Light asks Raye to testify him proof that he is not the busjacker's accomplice, forcing him to show Low-cal his proof of beingness an FBI agent, along with his proper noun, Raye Penber. Calorie-free drops a note, which prompts the busjacker to option it up, just for the notation to have been a snippet of the Death Note, meaning the busjacker can meet Ryuk. In shock, the busjacker empties his gun and exits the bus, earlier dying in an blow.

Back at Light's firm, Ryuk asks him if he's going to write Penber's proper noun downwards in the Expiry Note. Light tells him that it would look too suspicious if he does and then immediately later on they met. In addition, he wants Penber to bear witness him the names and faces of every FBI agent sent to investigate the NPA.

Light follows Penber and gives orders with a transmitter.

On December 27, 2003, Light goes to an underground section of the Shinjuku Station. Light figured out that he can write the engagement and cause of death in the Death Notation without a name, and the Expiry Note will work when the name is added later. While wearing a hood to obscure his identity, Light appears behind Penber (unaware that it is Light) and tells Penber that he is Kira. Light threatens Penber past stating that non-compliance would lead to his death, the decease of his love, and the deaths of his family.

The envelopes containing pages of the Death Annotation

Light asks Penber if he'south carrying a laptop, and if he has a file containing the names of all of the FBI agents in Japan. Penber says that he doesn't have a file like that, and Calorie-free easily him an envelope. He tells Penber to hold onto the envelope, take out the transmitter and put the earphones in. Over transmitter, Light leads Penber through a turnstile in the western entrance at three:xi PM. Penber enters a train on the Yamanote Line at 3:13 and takes a seat. Light asks how many FBI agents there are, and Penber says that he thinks at that place are four groups, totaling twelve agents. Light says to call an agent that is ranked lower than him and inquire for the names and faces of all agents sent to Japan. Penber uses his jail cell phone and calls an agent, and then asks him for the name and faces of the agents. Penber receives the FBI file at 3:21 PM, and Penber is the 2d FBI amanuensis that receives it. Lite tells Penber to take the contents out of the folder he gave him, and Penber takes out four envelopes with ten rectangular spaces cut out of the left side of each 1. Light says to write down the names of the agents into the blocks on the folders. At four:42 PM, when Raye exits the train, he dies of a center attack while turning around and seeing Lite.

Calorie-free takes the files dwelling and takes the pages of the Death Note out of their envelopes, revealing the times and causes of expiry for each agent. Each agent will receive the file and die at a different time.

Naomi Misora

Lite speaks to Naomi.

Subsequently the sudden expiry of Raye, Naomi Misora decides to have function in the Kira case herself. Having been told by Raye that he showed his FBI bluecoat to someone during a bus-jacking, Naomi deduces that Kira must have been on the bus. In her attempts to contact the Japanese Task Force, she comes across Light Yagami. Calorie-free uses his father'due south condition to his advantage, telling Naomi that he is Primary Yagami's son, which allows him to slowly win her trust. Cautious at first, she uses the false name Shoko Maki in lodge to protect herself until she tin reach L.

Naomi learns that Light is Kira.

After he realizes that this was an allonym from the mode Ryuk laughed, Lite finally gets Naomi to reveal her name past saying that he is a member of the Job Forcefulness and is actually working with L. Taking advantage of Naomi'south emotional state, Light gives the possibility that she could bring together the Task Forcefulness and aid grab her fiancé's murderer. Light says that he will demand to see a form of identification before she can join, and Naomi shows him her driver's license. Using a slice of the Death Note, Light writes down Naomi's name, resulting in her death by suicide. Her body is never constitute due to the specifications made by Calorie-free in the Death Note.

Surveillance Cameras

As Light arrives home, he finds the doorknob of his bedroom (which is usually lowered by a few millimeters) is strangely at the very top, plus the pencil lead placed on his door hinge is cleaved. Not simply that, but his bluff, a piece of paper, was strangely put back in his door. This has Low-cal believing that L has installed surveillance cameras and wiretaps inside his room. Light so bribes Ryuk with apples, request him to find where the surveillance cameras are.

Calorie-free reveals he has subconscious scandalous magazines and proceeds to scan through them in guild to give off the impression to Fifty that he is a normal teenager, and that the magazines were what he was hiding all along. During dinner, L has a message announced on Telly, stating that the ICPO has dispatched 1500 investigators to Japan to investigate Kira, but Calorie-free sees through this barefaced.

When Light is about to study for his upcoming entrance exams, he has placed a snippet of the notebook and a mini-LCD Tv inside a potato chip bag (which contains a flavour which merely he out of the rest of his family unit prefers). While studying, whenever Light places his hand in the potato flake pocketbook, he actually checks for criminals' names using the mini-TV and so writes down their names. The main idea is that 50 would see that criminals have died which Light could not have possibly see, existence decorated in his room, studying. With this trick, Light manages to impale two petty criminals.

For the next few days, Light proceeds to impale more criminals, picayune or not, in guild to comprehend up the fact that petty criminals have died solely while he was studying.

Eventually, the surveillance cameras get removed and Light plans on finding L through his father.

Coming together L

Light performs his archway exams, when he notices a student sitting strangely on his seat.

He passes the exams, scoring perfectly, and is able to become a pupil of To-Oh Academy. Alongside another student who scored perfectly, who was the pupil sitting oddly earlier, he gives a speech. Noticing the foreign behavior of this student, who named himself afterward the famous pop idol, Hideki Ryuga, Calorie-free feels annoyed at his constant chattering that concerns Light's character.

Light, frustrated over L having revealed himself.

"Hideki Ryuga" then reveals himself to Calorie-free as Fifty. Low-cal is shocked by this and is attempting to stay calm around this supposed new friend he's made. When Light arrives home, he throws a tantrum, and explains L's strategy, that should Light write down 50'due south name using the alias even with the off-chance that it'due south real, the real Hideki Ryuga will die (since Light will have subconsciously pictured Ryuga'south face), and suspicion volition be pointed towards him. Not only that, only even if Light finds out L's existent name, this Fifty could very well be a proxy and suspicion from the hypothetical real Fifty will be pointed towards Light over again, as the timing will still be too user-friendly. Low-cal accepts this claiming from L, getting excited over this upcoming boxing of wits.

Fifty asks Light to play tennis with him, and they practice and then, well-nigh evenly matched. During the lawn tennis game, both of them ponder strategies. Calorie-free comes to the conclusion that L asked him to play tennis in order to lay the groundwork for future meetings which volition essentially exist tests; Light too plans on confirming that Ryuga is L with confirmation from the Task Force.

Later Light wins the intense lawn tennis match, 50 reveals that he is suspicious of Light being Kira, with Calorie-free nevertheless being forced to put up the act and pretends to be shocked. Light comes to the conclusion that, with this act, Fifty is attempting to prevent Light from coming together with the Task Force. They hang out together at a cafe afterward.

At the cafe, L tests Calorie-free multiple times, with Light managing to evade L's psychological traps. 50 asks Lite to help the Kira investigation; if Calorie-free is Kira, then 50 volition be closer to him and there is more room for Light slipping upwardly, and if he isn't Kira, and then his great intellectual ability will be of use to the investigation. Light takes advantage of this by enervating that he run into the Chore Force members to confirm L'southward identity in order for him to brainstorm helping the investigation. Much to Calorie-free's surprise, L accepts.

Soichiro collapses due to stress, and both Lite and L visit him at the infirmary. In that location, through Soichiro, Light manages to confirm that the 50 who appeared earlier him is, in fact, the real L.

The Second Kira

On April 22, 2004 (2007 in anime), in a broadcast on Sakura Tv set, "Kira" sends tapes stating that if criminal reports stop, Kira volition kill constabulary officers and reporters, and and then demands that the life of someone in accuse of the Kira investigation exist handed over—the Director's or L'south. "Kira" says to choose one and reveal them in iv days and that, considering Kira knows the Managing director's face up, there are no special requirements; yet, if they should choose L, he must appear on Sakura Goggle box and give a ten-minute oral communication. "Kira" says that they will decide if the person on the news is Fifty, and if it is decided that he isn't, Kira will take the lives of several police officers equally compensation.

Light watches this broadcast, amused at the fact that someone else possesses a Death Note, likely with the Shinigami Optics. Light figures this person is dangerous as they could tarnish Kira's reputation and their capture would exist detrimental for Calorie-free, then Light figures he needs to join the Task Forcefulness in order to go along an center on L besides equally this simulated Kira.

Low-cal at the Task Strength.

A few days afterwards, Fifty asks Light to join the Job Forcefulness. Light arrives at the hotel and appears surprised at the small size of the Task Force, and L tells Calorie-free that at that place are a few outsiders who know what happens inside the investigation and simply i tin contact L directly. Light thinks to himself that if everyone in the Task Force dies merely one, the killer is revealed, then he must discover out who the outsider with the information is. Low-cal is told to wait over the papers of the investigation and so watch the tape without taking notes or removing annihilation. After watching the tapes, Light says that there may be someone else with Kira'south abilities, citing the difference in criminals killed, likewise as the fact that some were killed immediately after revealing their faces.

Lite realizes that L would have told him his plan regardless of what he told Fifty and that he fix things upward so that if Light didn't say in that location was another Kira, he would expect suspicious, and if he did, he would assistance strengthen Fifty'southward theory to the Task Force. L asks Light to assistance their case past pretending to be Kira and tells Light that just he is able to play this role, starting with writing a draft for the speech as Kira. Subsequently, the record is created and sent to diverse TV stations. The Second Kira responds with videos which contain indirect, and some rather directly, comments about Death Notes, Shinigami, and how they can come across. Lite goes to Aoyama to find the 2d Kira, but is unable to meet this Kira. However, due to having Shinigami Optics, the Second Kira is able to identify Light as Kira because of her being unable to see Light'due south lifespan.

Light hugs Misa, successfully having swayed her.

After finding out his address, the Second Kira arrives at Light's house, and Light invites Misa to his room and asks her to explain her actions. Misa says that she wanted to meet Kira because her parents were murdered in front of her, and Kira killed the human who did information technology. Misa asks to be his girlfriend, admitting that she wouldn't even mind if he simply uses her. Calorie-free agrees, intending to impale her after she outlives her usefulness. However, Misa'due south Shinigami, Rem, promises to kill him if he always harms Misa. Light finds Rem to be a massive threat, as having limited control over Misa would result in her doing something reckless, non to mention Misa's capture could effect in Rem killing Light.

Calorie-free has to now go on a gaggle of girlfriends so that his newfound relationship with Misa won't stand out, as L had already deduced that Kira and the second Kira have allied.

Misa goes directly against Light orders and, instead of meeting two weeks after their first meeting equally Light requested, Misa meets up with Light merely two days following their beginning coming together. Light uses this opportunity to convince Rem to aid him kill L, promising her that it'due south for Misa's happiness. Rem agrees to exercise and then, and Light said that she must follow his command only when he tells her to.

At campus, Light surprisingly meets up with Fifty again, where L steals Misa's telephone after taking advantage of a crowd. Misa is then taken away, with L revealing that he found Dna show in Misa's room pointing towards Misa beingness the second Kira. This is dangerous for Light, as Misa being the 2d Kira would point towards Light being the original Kira.

Imprisoned

Light while incarcerated by L

Calorie-free, now cornered past L, puts his master plan into action. Rem had already relinquished buying of Misa's notebook to Light, wiping her memories and preventing her from confessing.

Light so swaps the notebooks with their corresponding Shinigami, with Ryuk existence attached to the notebook originally endemic by Misa and Rem attached to Light's. Lite places two fake rules in the notebook Rem is attached to, ane being that when the notebook is destroyed, anyone who has touched the notebook will die, and, most importantly, whoever doesn't write names inside the notebook within thirteen consecutive days dies.

Light instructs Rem to allow Kyosuke Higuchi to get the new owner of the Death Note she is attached to, then asks L to detain him. During his solitude, no criminals die, which strengthens the case for Light beingness Kira. Within 7 days of confinement, Calorie-free gives up his ownership of his notebook, and consequently has all of his memories of being Kira wiped and altered. During his fifteenth day of confinement, criminals brainstorm dropping expressionless again, and on his 50th day, the Task Strength has L release Light and Misa.

Soichiro so fakes an execution past shooting Light and Misa with a blank gun, which convinces L to release Lite and Misa from their solitude as Misa would have killed Soichiro in this situation.

Yotsuba

Light accepts L'due south offer to join the investigation team to chase downwards Higuchi, who has taken up the mantle of Kira. During the investigation of Yotsuba, Low-cal works under the allonym "Lite Asahi".

Light, enraged at L for suspecting he is Kira, resorts to physical violence.

L handcuffs him and Light together, displeasing Misa and Light. L suggests manipulating Misa in order to go information from her, but Light refuses, as he dares not to ever take advantage of someone's feelings. While Misa is resting in her hotel room, L acts lethargic about how communicable Kira volition be hard, prompting Light to fight him.

Months later, while L is sulking and not working on the case, Lite finds a correlation between the killings and the growth of Yotsuba, having the investigation believe that Kira is either within Yotsuba or working behind Yotsuba, and too leads them to the conclusion that Kira can kill through ways other than heart attacks. Keeping watch of the meetings held past the head of the Yotsuba members, Light objects to L letting the killings continue, and poses as 50 and decides to call Reiji Namikawa, who agreed to assistance 50 and postpone the killings.

Misa eventually finds evidence pointing towards Kyosuke Higuchi beingness Kira. While L and the investigation team enacts the program to take down Higuchi, Light keeps sentinel of the situation and follows L, eventually to the point where he is riding on a helicopter with L, and witnesses Higuchi's arrest.

While the Task Strength discovers the Decease Note, Low-cal touches it, regaining his memories as Kira once over again. In club to claim ownership of the Expiry Note he is currently holding, Light kills Higuchi using a snippet of the notebook within his lookout.

L and the Task Forcefulness and then notice the xiii-mean solar day dominion, successfully immigration Light and Misa of being suspected, while 50 is still skeptical.

The End of 50

Fifty'south death

Low-cal instructs Misa to observe her buried Death Note, which results in her regaining her memories. Lite instructs Misa to kill Fifty if she remembers his real name from when they were on campus, only Misa doesn't remember and then makes the Shinigami Eye deal again, which is what Light wanted in case Misa forgot L's name, as taking the Eye deal and halving her lifespan would force per unit area Rem. Lite and then instructs Misa to begin killing criminals again and then that L would doubtable Misa is behind the killings. This is in order to put Rem in a situation where she'd be forced to impale 50 in order to save Misa. Rem does indeed kill L and Watari, which results in her death, but as Light planned.

After winning the battle with L and taking his persona, Light gains control of the Kira investigation squad. This puts him on the safest ground as his part as a 2d generation Fifty, covering his identity equally Kira.

For the side by side five years, past using Fifty's database of criminal records, Lite's judgments get more widespread than always. Equally a result, the world falls into a night age in which substantially everyone now lives under the law of Kira.

Part Ii

Mello's Kidnappings

Later five years of everything going swimmingly, Takimura, the head of the NPA, gets kidnapped in exchange for the Death Note. At the same time, an FBI agent, John McEnroe, confronts Soichiro, and asks for the Death Annotation. This FBI amanuensis also seeks cooperation from the Task Strength to rescue Takimura from the kidnappers.

Calorie-free feels obligated to get rid of the kidnappers every bit well as the American organization as shortly as possible, as they are currently the merely people besides the Task Strength who know of the being of the Death Notation. Lite kills Takimura so that they no longer have a bargaining fleck to trade the Death Note for, and information technology wouldn't look suspicious as ane could easily presume the kidnappers killed him. However, the kidnappers and then announce that they have kidnapped Sayu Yagami, which puts Low-cal under pressure level. In society to become assist, he contacts the arrangement which John McEnroe offered to have them to talk to, and Light talks to Almost for the first time, who introduces himself equally N and is aware of the previous Fifty's death.

Near letting Light know of him having cognition of the previous L's expiry.

Light tells Near the electric current situation and Virtually surveils the site of the trade using satellites. The exchange goes through, with the kidnappers gaining the notebook.

Near decides that he should chase the kidnappers on his ain, simply for his plan to neglect equally Mello uses the Expiry Note to wipe out more than half his team. Light takes advantage of this incident to merchandise all that he knows about the notebook for information on the perpetrator of the kidnappings. Near tells Light that someone using the nickname Mello, who is using the Mafia, is behind the kidnappings, and Light has the Job Strength investigate Wammy'southward House, informing Light of Mello'due south motives.

The president calls Light, and Light figures out that Mello had blackmailed him. Then, Light takes advantage of this to take the president organize a raid led by Yitzak Ghazanin. Light learns the location of Mello and the Mafia past taking control of the current Death Note owner and having him post him their location. However, the raid fails thank you to the intervention of Sidoh, a Shinigami working with the Mafia.

Soichiro dies

Calorie-free so has Misa send a bulletin to the Job Force as Kira, that Kira relinquished buying of his Decease Note to 1 of the members of the Task Force in order to attack the Mafia and regain the notebook. Light had expected Matsuda to gain ownership and make the Shinigami Eye deal, but, unfortunately for Calorie-free, Soichiro does then instead. The raid commences and they regain the Expiry Note, and Calorie-free tells them to confront Mello. Soichiro threatens Mello rather than killing him, giving Jose the opportunity to shoot Soichiro severely.

Mello and then blows up the base of operations and escapes, merely Soichiro manages to give out Mello'southward real name to Light. Soichiro then dies in the hospital, after seeing that Light'south lifespan was not absent, proving to him that Light was not Kira.

The Battle with Most

Near tries to make the Task Force members doubt Lite.

Lite selects Demegawa equally the Kira spokesperson, intending to spread Kira's word in gild to gain more ability to accept down Near and Mello. Thanks in function to David Hoope's decease and the boxing with the Mafia, the United states of america submits to Kira and dissolves the SPK, the organization Near is running. Nearly, deducing that the second Fifty is Kira, calls Calorie-free and claims that he has interrogated Mello, and that he learned that there are fake rules. Almost disproves the 13-day rule, and gives pieces of evidence to the Task Force pointing towards the second 50 beingness Kira, instilling some doubt within the Task Force in an effort to turn them against the second L.

Mello contacts Mogi and tells him to follow Mello to New York, which Mogi does then under the supervision of Light and the Task Forcefulness. However, Mello has Mogi go to the SPK's headquarters, which puts Lite nether extreme pressure as Mello and Most are constantly pressuring Mogi into spilling information. On ane hand, if Light lets Mogi live, he might spill information that would be detrimental for Low-cal, but if Light kills him, information technology'd only incriminate him.

When light then tries to appeal to everyone else in the room their cold gaze confirms that they too harshly decline his vison of a utopia.

Calorie-free's motives differ; his boredom trait does not exist, and he instead uses the Death Note out of frustration from the perceived failures of the Japanese justice organization. Light, prior to his discovery of the Decease Notation, hacks into the government database and finds that the government secretly acknowledges that many criminals can't be prosecuted. Light discovers the Death Annotation in an alley during a rainy nighttime later on encountering Takuo Shibuimaru in a club and throwing a law book into the pelting in a rage. Death Annotation: The Last Proper noun

Afterward Rem "kills" L and Watari, Calorie-free writes his father'south name in an attempt to kill him, an attempt that ultimately fails. The police shoot but do non impale Ryuk as he writes in the Death Note. Light laughs until Ryuk shows Light the Death Note, revealing that Light'southward name was written in the book. Kaneko added that as he portrayed Light as "being enthralled" equally he "becomes more than cruel" to make the audition members feel that they could "do the terrible things he does" even if the members do not sympathize with Low-cal.

Kaneko designed Lite'due south room to reflect the grapheme's personality by making information technology make clean and groovy and filling information technology with legal, criminal history, foreign, and academic books. The original version of Light's room included a stereo; Kaneko replaced information technology with a vacuum cleaner to reflect Calorie-free's "clean-freak cocky."

Tatsuya Fujiwara said that he felt difficulty portraying Light in the motion-picture show series considering of the lack of "activity" and because Low-cal has no signature mannerisms and therefore has his feelings displayed by his face; Fujiwara added that he struggled conveying Light'southward "incredible amount of intelligence" and that the operation would announced "very empty or simplistic" if Light received an improper portrayal. Fujiwara explained that he wanted Light to cry in a particular scene fifty-fifty though Kaneko told Fujiwara "Light doesn't cry" since Fujiwara believed that the scene would feel "more honest"; Kaneko used the take. Fujiwara said that he "could understand" Calorie-free's intentions to create a new world even though "murder is a horrible affair."
